Member of the Judicial Service Commission from 1989.
Appointed Chief Justice of the United Republic of Tanzania in 2000
Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission, 2000-2007
A member of the Judicial System Review Commission (1974-1977),
Member of the Legal Task Force (1993-1996),
Chairperson of the Appointments Committee (2000-2007),
Vice Chairperson of the Southern African Judges Commission (2005-2007).
He is the Chancellor of Mzumbe University, Tanzania.
NB: He retired from the Bench in July 2007.
